Step By Step  Basic Sites  Redesign  E-commerce  Domain Names  Hosting  Promoting

YOUR BUSINESS ONLINE IN A FEW EASY STEPS

If you're not familiar with the process of getting a web site up and running, here's
a summary of the basic steps and requirements:

A Few Easy Steps
  • Step 1:  Register a Domain Name.
The Domain Name is your web site address, such as www.yourbusiness.com.  If you don't already have a Domain Name, there are lots of registration companies out there to choose from.  Plan to pay $7 - $10 per year for your Domain Name.  Visit my Domain Names Page for more information and my recommendations.

  • Step 2:  Find a Host.
Hosting refers to the server location of your web site files.  A server is just another computer with lots of space for the types of files that make up a web site.  Your company may already have a web server, but many small companies don't.  If not, you can pay for server space from a Hosting Company.  The cost for Hosting varies greatly depending on your needs, but plan to spend an average of $15 per month (not including E-Commerce) for quality Hosting.  Visit my Hosting Page for more information and my recommendations.

  • Step 3:  Hire a Designer/Developer.
If you don't have any experience in web site design or development, hire someone who does.  There are many programs available that make site design look easy, and those are great for personal web sites.  Your business, however, should have a professional looking site with the proper structure and elements.  The cost for professional designers and developers (often separate people) is so varied I won't even attempt an average.  Visit my Rates Page for more information.

  • Step 4:  Promote Your New Site.
Promoting your web site involves a few different tasks.  Search Engine submission and placement is important and is an additional cost.  Again, there are many companies that provide this type of service.  Visit my Promoting Page for more information and my recommendations.  Another promotional tool that's often overlooked is promoting your site to existing and potential customers.  This is as simple as adding your web site address to your business cards, brochures, etc., and including it in any advertising you do.

  • Step 5:  Enjoy all the benefits of a professional web site!
